OK, I know Babington House is not in Wales but this place
is so special it’s worth a bit of a schlep. And, in all honesty, if you
live in the south this outpost of London’s über-trendy private members’ club
Soho House, the commute to Somerset is negligible. Once there, any travel sickness
dissolves away in the sheer mad luxury of it all. A stunning Georgian country
house history-steeped, inside this high-end hotel the rooms have Bond villain
technie knobs on with bathrooms begging for a style mag spread. As you’d
expect, its spa is suitably gob-gapingly impressive. Named after the quirky
product range initially piloted there, Cowshed is home to a super souped-up
gym, sauna, steam room and the pièce de résistance indoor and
outdoor heated pools circled by seven lakeside cabins offering massages, facials,
aromatherapy, reflexology and waxing. Class in a James Bond Martini glass.

His’n’Hers
When the BBC’s much-respected Horizon science strand discovered through
a series of stringent tests that Boots No7’s Protect & Perfect Serum
For Women had a measurable effect on ironing out wrinkles, it sent Britain’s
female population into a frenzy with queues snaking round the block and tubes
eBayed for 50 quid-plus. Unsurprisingly in the increasingly competitive grooming
market, No7 have capitalised on this skyrocket success and launched a men’s
counterpart (30ml, £16.75.) Silky and easily absorbed, this anti-ager promises
youth in a bottle in just four weeks by using a similar – but not the same
as men’s skins are thicker, natch – blend of ingredients as the female
version that includes the vitamin A derivative pro-retinol, but minus the bank-breaking
price-tag.
