Over The Hills And Spa Away
Everything about Peterstone Court Country House & Spa
screams quality. Actually, this place is too classy to do anything as vulgar
as scream. Tucked away in the sweeping grandeur of the Brecon Beacons, the
house itself is a suitably imposing piece of classic Georgian architecture
where Charles I is rumoured to have laid his bewigged head before it was chopped
off. The spa is located in the vaulted caverns that were the house cellars
and is an oasis of Zen calm where you can de-clutter your brain and boost your
body. Detox with their ridiculously good value facial Circaroma Vitality Face
Care For Men (45mins, £34) and then retox in the beyond-outstanding restaurant.

The Knives Are Out
“Have you had Botox?” asks a (male) friend as I arrive in a (dimly-lit)
bar. I haven’t as it happens, but it’s a measure of how accepted
men having cosmetic procedures has become that I don’t bat an unlifted
eye at the question. Predictably, the most male-matey nip/tuckers are the less
invasive treatments, like dermabrasion and chemical peels, which avoid the surgeon’s
knife but still give great, lasting grooming results. Dermabrasion involves sanding
the skin and a chemical peel is basically a facial with acid, admittedly not
too enticing-sounding but Spire’s Cardiff Hospital – where both are
available and popular – provides comprehensive pre- and post-care, so you
don’t end up with the Mickey-Rourke-melted-by-a-radiator look. And, yes,
they do have Botox on the menu. Mmm…
