The notion of city living is one that Cardiff has been embracing
since the start of its regeneration. Not content with simply restoring the
façade of Palsgwynt’s original mansion and developing it, Cardiff-based
Bluebay has constructed a complete new build to the rear to create a unique
new property feature near the heart of the city. In all, the development houses
20 contemporary new apartments - six homes within the original mansion, and
the other 14 in the new development.
The apartment show home is typical of one of the 14 new builds. The two bedroomed
apartment feels as solid as the trees that line the avenue outside. Wood panelled
flooring and heavy thick doors give a comforting sturdiness upon entering.
Off to the left is the spacious living area, which contains all you need to
relax- whether it’s for those nights in alone, or when you’re entertaining
guests. The living space is clean and airy, and has all the connections made
for satellite TV viewing. The kitchen subtly sits in the corner, its sharp
black and white colour scheme looking as crisp as a newly pressed suit. Kitchen
fittings include cooker, fridge and dishwasher from quality German appliance
manufacturer Baumatic and the worktop lines are neat and tidy. Out in the hall,
tucked out of view in a storage cupboard is a washer/drier that includes a
condenser - no need for unsightly grey ’elephant trunks’ hanging
out of your window.
The main bathroom, although compact, features a large shower, wash basin and
toilet. Ceramic tiles floor to ceiling offset the dark wood panelling that
gives the room a rather earthy feel. The two bedrooms are of similar size,
although the en suite comes with the master. A large bath lounges leisurely
in the ensuite, the room continuing the ceramic tile and dark wood scheme.
In the second bedroom you get double the in-built wardrobe space: plenty of
room for your boots and suits.
The décor throughout is unassuming and neutral, giving buyers the chance
to appreciate the soothing tones, or to splash with colour, depending on individual
tastes. The developers do offer a complete interior design service in partnership
with Maskrey’s of Cardiff, should anyone need help with ideas and design
to complete their home.
The real beauty of this development however, is its location. Bluebay, the
residential property arm of Atlantic Property Developments, has been pretty
shrewd in tying up a plot on Cardiff’s legendary Cathedral Road. On the
doorstep of the Millennium Stadium and its surrounding hum and buzz, Plasgwynt
provides ridiculously easy access to the Welsh Institute of Sport, Pontcanna’s
cafés and shops, not to mention Cathedral Road’s own peppering
of popular pubs. Then of course, you’ve got Test cricket literally within
a ball’s throw of your front door.
What more could a man ask for?
