‘Hot
for 2007?’ I hear you cry. ‘Call yourself cultural clairvoyants?
Rachel was Trezise hot enough in 2006!’ Well, without wanting to blow
our own trumpets, we had one of Rachel’s award winning stories in RedHanded
over a year ago, so let’s just say you can trust us with this one. 2006
was a huge year for Rhondda-born Rachel. Her debut short story collection Fresh
Apples scooped the inaugural EDS Dylan Thomas Prize with literary luminaries
such as Andrew Davies comparing it to James Joyce’s Dubliners. However
2007 is set to turn the amp up to eleven. Dial M For Merthyr her on-the-road
reportage of Welsh rock hopefuls Midasuno is due to make a splash in the summer
and a life of ribs and ranch sauce beckons when Rachel begins teaching at Austin
University, Texas. With new novel Sixteen Shades of Crazy almost ready you
can be sure that Rachel will be hitting the ‘what’s hot’ lists
again in 2008. Just remember where you heard it first.
